Wieder mal ein philosophischer Rätselfilm von Michael Brynntrup. Ebenso vertreten Michael Brynntrup, dessen schon bei der Berlinale gelaufener Film »Kain und Abel« mit jedem Sehen gewinnt.
Der No Budget Preis geht an [...] Kain und Abel von Michael Brynntrup wegen seiner ungewöhnlich wagemutigen Ikonographie. A queerly provocative retelling of the Bible story about a man's bloodlust for his brother.
Nicht der Tod des Bruders steht im Zentrum, sondern die Rolle Gottes interessiert Brynntrup in »Kain und Abel - eine Moritat« (10 min, 1994). In seinen Augen dokumentiert der biblische Brudermord einen Riß in der abendländischen Vorstellung vom 'Lieben Gott'. Gott honoriert nicht die Opferidee Kains und dessen Getreideopfer, sondern lediglich den Blutzoll, den Abel entrichtet. Der Herr ein nach Blut lechzender Vampir, der Zwietracht sät und die Menschen gegeneinander aufbringt, eine pointiert-drastische Darstellung des alttestamentarischen Gottes und der Versuch einer Neudefinition des herkömmlichen Gottesbildes. »Cain and Abel: A Moral« (1994) retells the story of the Bible's most notorious brothers, questioning the roles of discord and resistance (and featuring an extraordinary birth scene not to be missed!), all in a style that hovers outside the boundaries of time and history. »Cain and Abel: A Moral« (1994) recalls the German expressionists in its ghoulish meditation on homoeroticism and the bloody consequences of God's caprice. Taking imitation to profane heights, Brynntrup even has the male character Abel (from »Kain und Abel«), played by Ichgola Androgyn, give birth to a baby (doll) out of his anus. Here all recourse to notions of biology and gender specificity is abandoned. Greek tragedies and biblical morals are more than suggested, and perhaps it has to do primarily with the cinematic per se. In spite of all the side projects that are generated in the form of drawings, text and collages, there is never any doubt that it is the films that everything originates from and returns to.

Llevando la imitación a alturas profanas, Brynntrup aún hace que el personaje de Abel, representado por Ichgola Androgyn, dé a luz una criatura (un muñeco) por el ano. En este punto, se abandona cualquier recurso a las nociones específicas de género y biología. »Tabu V« (1998) a diary in motion (…) Pages blacked by writings, pictures and collages succeed one another second upon second on the cinematic ribbon. There is also the list of lovers, an extract of »Cain and Abel, A Moral«, adaptation that Brynntrup made in 1994 of Cain and Abel story, his self-portrait as an unruly Chinagirl… Here the Silent in which Act Up saw death, is reconsidered in the light of the Wittgenstein moral. This year, Brynntrup is sick and the reason for the pain is not explicit: is it question of a viral problem or rather chirurgical? The commandment "thou shalt not kill" is here a direct reference to the first biblical murder, Cain killing Abel, but it is also, echos sickness, the murder by contamination of a lover, a brother or a twin: of an alter ego. »Tabu V« (1998) journal filmé (…) Des pages noircies d’écritures, des images, des collages se succèdent à la seconde sur le ruban filmique. Il y a aussi la liste des amants rencontrés, l’adaptation que Brynntrup réalisa en 1994 de l’histoire de Caïn et Abel, un autoportrait du cinéaste en indisciplinée China girl.Le Silent, dans lequel Act Up voyait la mort, y est reconsidéré a l’aune de la morale wittgensteinienne. Cette année-là, Brynntrup est malade et la cause du mal n’est pas très explicite : s’agit-il d’un problème viral ou d’ordre chirurgical? Le commandement “tu ne dois pas tuer” y est une référence directe au premier meurtre biblique, Caïn assassinant Abel, mais c’est aussi, versus maladie, le meurtre par contamination de l’amant, du frère ou du jumeau : d’un alter ego. | ||
